Springing Forward Spring
Connection links students to dozens of employers
More than 450 Fox School undergraduate students
networked with 54 employers at the Center for Student Professional
Development’s (CSPD) annual Spring Connection.
Held Feb. 17 in Mitten Hall, Spring Connection
links employers with students who are seeking summer internships or full-time
positions. The format of the event resembles that of a reception and allows
students to meet with employers in a more intimate, face-to-face setting to
discuss opportunities.
“This is not your typical career fair,” said Megan
Panaccio, CSPD’s associate director of corporate relations.
Prior to Spring Connection, participating students must
revise their resumes and learn interview techniques through CSPD so they are
fully prepared for the three-hour event.
“It just gets straight to the point,” said Tim
McCaffrey, a marketing major who spoke with companies such as Pepsi and Wawa
about marketing, sales and management positions. “Here’s what you need. Here’s
the next step. This is better-suited for a business event.”
Many of Spring Connection’s participating employers
brought Fox alumni from their companies who helped with recruiting and
described a day in the life of an employee.
A total of 66 employers visited the Fox School for
on-campus interviews through CSPD in 2009-2010 – a 10 percent increase from the
prior academic year. Those employers scheduled 31 percent more interviews and
interviewed 719 students, or 19 percent more than last year.
